A Most Fearful Sacrifice, The Long Road NOW Shipping!

A Most Fearful Sacrifice is an epic two-player wargame with over 15 square feet of playing area (you don’t to use it all, if you don’t want to) and 526 playing pieces depicting the fighting that occurred during all three days of this decisive clash. The game utilizes a new ACW operating system called the Black Swan system, which is closely related to the popular Blind Swords game system similar to the game The Devil’s To Pay! by Tiny Battle Publishing. This version of the system is specifically designed to handle larger-scale battles yet keep rules overhead low. Players can simulate huge encounters in a reasonable amount of playing time. This is accomplished in one way through the use of card draws rather than chit pulls. Also, players will trigger activations by Corps instead of by lower-level formations but they still have tactical decision-making choices by needing to determine which Divisions get activation priority. Though at a grander scale, this system maintains a tactical feel about it and still emphasizes the three “FOW’s” of war … the Fortunes of War, the Friction of War and the Fog of War. Players will be challenged to deal with a constantly developing battle situation, never quite sure of what the Gods of War will throw at them, and thus they must always be prepared to deal with historically realistic “black swan” events.  Order here.

The Long Road is a World War III-themed, hex and counter wargame with paranormal elements. Based on the characters and events in Mark H. Walker’s Dark War series of novels (Revelation and Retribution), The Long Road depicts a Soviet push into West Germany. A push predicated by forces beyond their control. A push predicated by paranormal forces.

In many of the scenarios, gamers will take the role of a Soviet or NATO regimental or brigade commander, controlling platoons of 1985-era tanks, infantry, and weapons as they play through a story-driven campaign. In some of these scenarios the game’s artificial intelligence will control paranormal elements that directly impact the combatants and move the story forward. For example, a strange, otherworldly electrical storm that roams the battlefield, hampering electronics and limiting engagement ranges. Or perhaps a zombie horde of unknown origin that pours from a city, attacking American and Soviet soldiers alike.

In other scenarios, you will be able to directly control the strange forces as they either fight NATO/ Soviet soldiers or other paranormal entities. For instance, you might lead a Lycan clan ambushing a Soviet convoy, the unchanged clan members fighting with RPD/RPGs and assault rifles while their werewolf brethren assault with fang and claw. In another scenario vampires, with high-tech weaponry, battle Lycans to keep the Lycan from overrunning the vampire coven.

Crazy, right? But it’s done with a next-level iteration of the popular Platoon Commander system, in a way we hope pique’s wargamer’s interest. Make no mistake. The Long Road is a wargame, but a wargame with a twist. Features include.

  • Airstrikes
  • Artillery
  • Special ATGM rules
  • Overruns
  • Infantry fire from IFVs
  • Helicopters
  • Spetsnaz
  • Champions
  • Heroes
  • Commanders
  • Card-assisted play

Yaah! #15 Shipping in June

Yaah! #15 is enroute to the United States. Due to arrive on May 31st, we should be able to begin shipping in June.

In this magazine we have the clever, card-driven, hex and counter executed game. Titled, Caucasus Burning: The Nagorno-Karabahk War, 2020, the simulation is an operational design by Greg Porter covering the Nagorno-Karabahk War of 2020. You’ll command formations of T-90 tanks, BMP-equipped mechanized infantry, drones, cruise missiles, and squadrons of attack aircraft as you simulate the war between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which took place in the fall of 2020. Units represent battalions grouped into brigades. Maneuver and attacks in the game are done via actions played from a deck of cards, and each pass through the deck represents 2 days and nights of fighting. A game of Caucasus Burning: The Nagorno-Karabahk War, 2020 will probably take a little less than 10 passes through the deck, so it will run a little faster than the actual war.

Latest update… FREE PLATOON COMMANDER DELUXE EXPANSION ADDED! We have added 10 more pages, and an entire new Platoon Commander Deluxe expansion with 22 x 1″ counters, and 4 scenarios, titled, Arracourt ’44. These counters, as well as the counters for Nagorno will be printed to the same high (and thick) standards as the FPG boxed games.

Of course Yaah! isn’t only about its game, there are some darn good articles and variant scenarios to boot. Pre-order yours here.
